(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Lakewood Ranch has many required course and electives, but obviously cannot offer every class everyone wants. Mustangs have suggestions for classes they want to take but are not offered here at school.
Senior Nicole Nolfi suggested “we should have a culinary class to drastically improve cooking skills for college.”
Language education is another big one suggested by Senior Bora Cobanoglu. He also suggested, being fluent in Turkish, that “we should expand the number of languages offered, classes such as German, Russian, and even Turkish.”
Freshman Nick Barion said, “some workshops such as auto-shop and woodshop would help kids gain life skills in repairing and building household objects and even cars.”
Anne-Maria Harding said, “We need a drivers ed class, if offered at school it will help kids be safer drivers and can also lower insurance costs.”
Senior Jess Lizotte advocated for a debate class saying, “It will help kids gain public speaking skills improving their chances of receiving a job.”
LRHS Guidance counselor Tracy Jordan adding new classes to the LRHS curriculum is a possibility.
“Classes come about as students talk to teachers and the teachers take an interest in what they’re saying,” she said. “If the teacher is available and has the interest and the proper certification then the idea can become a class.”
Students seem to want additional classes that could greatly benefit them later in life.
