(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On Aug. 13, 2014, Lakewood Ranch High School hired Mr. Kevin Devitt as the school’s new assistant marching band director. Devitt was born and raised in Florida and while in high school, participated in marching band for all four years. He was also a drum major for three years.

“On my first day working with Mr. Devitt I knew he was going to be a great teacher,” said sophomore Kirina Lakhwani. “Mr. Devitt teaches very well, and as a second year student in marching band, I look forward to learning everything he has to teach me in the years to come. From a student standpoint, I feel he is a great influence on band participants and LRHS students all together.”
Devitt intends on “continuing the long tradition that the Lakewood Ranch High School Department has of creating music with a high level of passion and artistry.
“The students and administration at Lakewood Ranch are incredible,” stated Devitt, “Working with Mr. (LRHS Band Director Ron) Lambert these past few months has been an amazing experience. Getting to know Mr. Lambert on a personal and professional level has been a pleasure, and his passion for music, education, and his students inspire me daily.”
Devitt strongly encourages any new or current LRHS students who are looking for a sense of place and family, to join the LRHS marching band. He looks forward to having fun along with Lakewood Ranch marching band participants as they perform at the Mustang football games, and work hard to achieve musical excellence.
During his freshman year of high school, Mr. Devitt started playing the Euphonium, his main instrument along with the Trombone. After graduation, Mr. Devitt attended both Florida State University and Florida’s Gulf Coast University. Throughout and after his school years, Mr. Devitt’s worked hard to expand his musical talent. Devitt can play fifteen instruments in total. These include the Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Euphonium, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba, Percussion, Guitar, Violin, Viola, Cello, and the piano.
