LRHS Psychology students alter their perceptions

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS DEC. 4-5 AP Psychology Perception fair was a great opportunity for students to interactively learn about psychology. Each student made a board and activity about perception. They then proceeded to teach other students about perception.

“Perception is the interpretation of information or stimuli brought in through our senses,” said AP Psychology teacher Dave Frantz.

LRHS Psychology teacher Dave Frantz (in back) leads his students in a perception exercise.

The fair contained many activities, one involves perception goggles made of prism lenses which cause the wearer to see everything flipped upside down. Anyone wearing these goggles has to try to do normal activities like shaking hands or throwing a ball accurately.

“In the perception fair we explain every optical illusion that you’ve ever seen,” said Frantz.

Junior John McGovern said he enjoyed the event, (The Perception Fair) allows you to learn stuff in a fun way.”

Junior Louis Aronas agreed.

“I love the fair it’s been a great experience,” he said. “We learn about shadow and texture gradients, relative high, relative motion stuff like that.”

Junior Brendan Brooks said the fair was a great opportunity for experiential learning.

“I think it’s a fun thing to do,” he said, “and its a lot better then just sitting in the classroom taking notes.”

This is the LRHS students’ second Psychology Fair. On Nov. 19-20 they held a Sensation Fair.

“It was all different types of stimuli we bring through our seven senses.” said Frantz.

AP Psychology is open to all juniors and seniors. Students must be enrolled in AP Psychology to participate in the fairs.
