(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS Assistant Principal Craig Little has been named The school’s principal, replacing Linda Nesselhauf who retired last school year.
Little has been an assistant principal at LRHS for four years so being a Mustang is not new to him. Little was also an assistant principal of Haile Middle School and Johnson Middle School for five years. He acquired Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Arts degrees from Saint Leo University. He also has a School Principal Certification on all levels.
As principal, Little wants to focus on improving relationships and student discipline.
“Fair and consistent student discipline is at the core of every successful school,” said Little at a July 2 public forum.
Little also wants to employ data-driven decision making and use “data as a tool to identify our weaknesses and guide our decisions,” said Little.
He wants LRHS to become a U.S. News Nationally Ranked High School and believes one way to do it is through closing the achievement gap between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged students. To do this he has four steps: identify “disadvantaged” students, recognize possible obstacles, use data to determine priority areas that need to be addressed and create safety nets to catch students with low grades before it gets worse.
Little said he’s counting on LRHS’s “ultra-competitive and compassionate” staff to help achieve such goals.
“We need a challenge,” he said. “Lakewood Ranch has the staff and the student population to get there.”
Little stressed his confidence in the LRHS team.
“Data doesn’t improve student achievement; people do,” he said.
Little’s appointment still must be confirmed by the Manatee County School Board.
