(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS National Honor Society (NHS) is hosting a car wash to assist the battle against cystic fibrosis May 17 at Monty’s Pizza on University Parkway.
“Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (about 70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its proteins cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and obstructs the pancreas,” according to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
The mucus can lead to life-threatening lung infections and blocks the breakdown of natural enzymes that help the body absorb food.
NHS will donate all funds to Cystic fibrosis support groups.
“I am happy we are raising awareness about cystic fibrosis and trying to make a difference for people suffering from the disease,” said NHS president junior Katie Wray.
