MUSTANGS AHEAD

Mustangs show off artistic sides

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – A special treat is in store for Mustang art lovers.

LRHS will host its second annual End of Year Arts Gallery and Fundraiser 5-8 p.m., May 15 on Lakewood Ranch Main Street.

Artwork on display will come from Ceramics, Painting, Drawing, and 2D classes.

Lakewood Ranch Fine Arts teacher Abby Flanigan is excited to be a part of this year’s event.

“This will be the second year for the event. It is only my second year teaching, and Mrs. (Terry) Thompson’s third,” she said. “Last year the gallery was held in the Town Hall and it was way too packed and crowded for the amount of kids we had. Our numbers keep rising, so this year Lakewood Ranch Main Street will be shut down for open tables.”

She praises the event for the donations received. “The money received goes back into the art program,” said Flanigan. “You donate what you feel is comfortable for each piece. With this money we can keep purchasing supplies such as paper, pencils, clay, and paint.

“Throughout the year we have done ovation on Lakewood Ranch such as Art Slam, and the Holiday boutique so we do this a couple times a year to keep funds up. Supplies are super expensive and we have to replenish them many times throughout the year. Total purchases climb to $1,000, sometimes $2,000.”

The Fine Arts programs will also display theater performances as well as Band and Orchestra sets.
