Mustangs prepare for AP exams

May Chongwiboon – LRHS NEWS

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Many LRHS students are preparing for the upcoming Advanced Placement (AP) tests that begin May 5. AP tests determine whether or not students receive college credit for the AP classes they’ve taken.

All AP exams will be taken at Manatee Technical Institute’s (MTI) East campus.

Students must be at the testing site no later than 30 minutes before the exam begins. They will not be allowed to leave until the exam has officially ended. There will be no exceptions made for anyone, including any work or sports obligations.

Parking will be prohibited on MTI grounds, as well as the LRHS tennis or basketball courts. Students must park on the LRHS parking lot and walk to MTI.

Students will need to have sharpened pencils, pens, and, if necessary, calculators for the AP exams.  Electronic devices, scrap paper, reference guides, watches that make noise, food or drinks, and clothing with subject-related information are not allowed into the testing room.

LRHS Assistant Principal and AP coordinator Craig Little said, “Students should come into the exams feeling confident. They’ve worked hard all year long and this is their chance to display everything they’re capable of.”

Sophomore Taylor Hallbeck said, “I’m taking the AP Lang [AP English Language and Composition] test on May 9, and I’m really nervous. I know that the passing rate is really small, but I’m gonna try my best and hope for a good score.”

Junior Marissa Dyer is in AP Psychology this year.

“I’m really passionate about the subject,” she said, “and I’m definitely a little nervous about the AP exam, but I know I’ll do fine with enough studying.”

Complete information about the LRHS AP exam schedule and procedures can be found on the school’s AP webpage.
