(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS registration for 2014-15 is coming to an end. Students need to turn in their registration forms to their seventh period teacher or the front office by the end of school Thursday.
Mustangs are picking next year’s electives and getting signatures from teachers to move on with core classes. Prerequisites can be found in the school’s curriculum guide. LRHS guidance counselor Tracy Jordan said, “Students need to do research and talk to their parents to figure out what are the best classes for them next year.”
There are many options for students including State College of Florida (SCF) Dual Enrollment, Manatee Technical Institute (MTI) and On the Job Training (OJT) programs and they should discuss their options with parents.
“Students sometimes seem to think their teacher or guidance counselor can tell them what classes they need to take,” said Jordan, “That’s a decision they have to make that fits with their goals and plans.”
The campus provides Post-secondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) and the Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE) for identified juniors and seniors. Lower clansmen can schedule their testing independently. Students also should prepare to take the SAT and/or ACT, depending on what grade they will be going into.
“On campus PERT testing is for only specifically identified juniors and seniors. Anyone else who wants to take the PERT, for instance for a dual enrolled class,” said Jordan, “needs to pick up an application in Guidance and follow the instructions on the Guidance webpage.”
Dual Enrolled students need a satisfactory score in the PERT, ACT or SAT. Jordan said interested students should consult the Guidance webpage.
Once registration forms are turned into guidance, counselors will call in students to discuss their choices and finalize next year’s schedule.
Jordan has a message to all students, “We urge everyone to be patient. There’s no way we’ll be able to see everyone who’s requested an appointment before the forms are due. We will get to everyone eventually however.”
