Mustangs beat nation’s #4 baseball team

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS Baseball is underway for the 2014 season. This is the second year for varsity head coach and former Mustang Ryan Kennedy.

Varsity won its first game of the season Tuesday against the MaxPreps #4 in the country, Venice High School 5-3.

Some of the highlights of the game was two hits for sophomore Jack Dunn and junior Cameron Pearcy, along with the save and two strikeouts for closer senior Joey Ambrosino.

Kennedy said it was a big win for the Mustangs.

“It was a test for us with opening night against great ball club. They are multiple former state champions. Hopefully we can take this win and continue to climb the ladder.”

Kennedy is assisted by Coach Brett Holte, Coach Brent Solich, and Coach Faust Delazzer. Junior Varsity coaches are Coach Matt Pascuzzi, Coach Vinny DeMarco, and Coach Mike King.

Both teams are coming off of intermediate seasons and are looking to improve their records.

With the loss of seniors Kevin Leone, Jacob Greenaway, and early graduate Bradley Zunica, some new additions to the team include sophomores Tyler Mattes and Tanner Fultz.

This years seniors include Ambrosino, George Corbett, Justin Greenaway, and Garrett Schultz.

The JV team’s first game is February 13 against Bayshore at home.

Sophomore Ryley Zunica stated, “I can’t wait for the season to start and to get back on the field!”
