(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS Lady Mustangs soccer team are Regional Champions for the second year in a row.

The Mustangs beat Seminole High School 1-0 with a goal from senior Delaney Riggins. The game was supposed to take place on Friday night but it was pushed back to Saturday afternoon due to a fire that occurred in one of the LRHS stadium lights.

“It was a really exciting game on Saturday. It took a while to score but we finally did and we are focused on our next game,” said Senior Juliana Guida.

The Lady Mustangs will compete in the state semi-finals for the second consecutive year against Melbourne High School. Last year Melbourne defeated the Mustangs and went on to be state champions.

“I’m excited to be able to play Melbourne again, The team is really ready for the challenge,” said Senior Alex Latham.

Junior Maria Miller said the team’s progress is “exciting, coaches and players didn’t expect to make it this far, This is our best team since I’ve been here.  Everyone so close.”

The Mustangs will take on the Bulldogs this Friday at Melbourne High School at 12:30 p.m.
