LRHS FFA students stood out at Heifer and Steer week at the Manatee County Fair with an impressive amount of results and awards.
Senior Jesse Embach had a great weekend. She won Champion Steer, Champion Heifer, Champion Senior Showmanship, and received a Herdsman Award.
“I don’t think I could have ended it any better,” said Embach. “All my hard work paid off my senior year. I feel really lucky to have had the opportunity to be a part of the fair and have the chance to win all that I did.”
Junior Ashley Huddleston Placed Second in show with the Chapter Heifer. The chapter heifer belongs to the school and is cared for by FFA students.
Sophomore Caitlyn Corbran placed third overall in Senior Showmanship with the chapter steer who weighed about 1150 pounds and sold for $3.00 a pound.
She said, “It was a really exciting year for me. This was my first year showing a Steer and I enjoyed bonding with Diesel and being able to work with him.”
Sophomore Alyssa Riggio received a Leadership Award and sold her 1275 pound Steer for $6.00 a pound.
She said “I was really happy to be able to purchase my own Steer this year and sell him for personal profit. It was a great experience and I plan on doing a Heifer and a Steer next year.”
