(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – With the school year already half over, some LRHS seniors stress over the thought of not passing their final Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) re-take test.
In order to graduate high school in the state of Florida all students must pass the FCAT or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or ACT tests. Without passing these, a student can not walk across the stage at graduation or get a diploma.
The last FCAT retake is the week of April 7th. A total of 37% of the seniors who took the FCAT retakes last time in October 2013 passed.
Approximately 20-30 seniors who did not pass the last FCAT have to retake it in April.
“Steps to help students prepare for passing the FCAT are additional reading, doing FCAT explorer and completing reading passages.” said LRHS guidance counselor Tracy Jordan
An LRHS senior who wishes to stay anonymous said ” I did not pass the ACT or the FACT, i’m very nervous about being able to graduate or not.”
There is little a school can do to help students who fail the FCAT, SAT and ACT.
