(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Lakewood Leaders are reaching out to the first grade students at one of this area’s poorest schools, Daughtrey Elementary.

Ninety-six percent of Daughtrey’s students receive free or reduced lunches and many of the students are considered homeless.

Lakewood Leaders is collecting badly needed supplies for the youngsters. They hope to collect enough supplies and donations so that they can purchase all 150 first graders clothing items, hygiene products, and school supplies. Gently used clothing is also being accepted.

LRHS sophomore Hailey Todoroff said, “The Lakewood Leaders would love to see the kids receive supplies that could make their lived just a little bit easier.”

Lakewood Leaders will be visiting Daughtrey for the “Give Back” event after school from 2:05 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 17.

Lakewood students will spend an hour and a half with the first graders playing games, reading to them, and giving each student a gift bag. Used clothing will also be given to the parents who live in the community.

Lakewood Leaders are encouraging help from thoughout the community. Donations are being collected in room 610.
