Mustangs enjoy small screen opportunity

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Members of the LRHS Mustang Broadcast News Network are currently featured on the Bright House Sports Network website.

Students have been reporting on the accomplishments of Lakewood Ranch Sports teams as well as recaps on certain games.

The opportunity to be featured on the website is open to any school in Florida. Only nine schools currently participate and LRHS is the only participant in the Manatee and Sarasota area.

Bright House is in the process of not only displaying the stories on their website but also developing a show with many schools reporting on their high school’s sports accomplishments.

The “Bright House Crew” is made up of 13 members of Mr. Bryon Stedman’s Advanced TV Production class. The students volunteered to be a part of the project and together they release about five or six features a month.

Stedman said, “[The opportunity] gives students the professional experience. There is no match to seeing yourself in a finished production. It gives [the students] a nice reflection and they can see themselves in a professional situation.”

Student participants are also able to visit Bright House headquarters in St. Petersburg to sit in on the filming of the news.

This is LRHS’s first year participating in the project and the school hopes to continue making videos for Bright House next year.
LRHS will receive $1500 for being a part of this opportunity.
