(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – It’s no secret how effective the right dialog in a play can be. LRHS senior playwright Joseph Grosso, however, knows the power of silence.
Grosso wrote a silent one act drama that will be preformed by the LRHS drama team Dec. 14 and 15 at North Port High School.
Grosso’s play “Unknown Artist” will also be preformed at this year’s LRHS Winter Caberet Dec. 6 and 7.
The act is silent except for a few lines towards the end of the production, and the actors mostly act out their lines. The story portrays the struggles of a 1947 post World War II artist who cannot find inspiration to paint.
Grosso said, “The artist goes into this bar and he just sees all these people around him, and with the help of his muse, he paints their stories, its so dynamic and has different aspects to each part of the act.”
The LRHS art department is helping produce props for the act. Grosso found paintings by unknown artists that fit scenes of his play and the art department repainted the art with their own unique touches and details.
LRHS wood shop is also building frames and props for the show.
Grosso plans to major in musical theatre and has been applying to schools across the country and is eagerly awaiting acceptance letters.
“Being part of the drama department here at LRHS has just made me realize how much I love theatre, and I can not wait to continue on to bigger and better things, but I will always be thankful to all my friends here and [LRHS drama teacher Roxanne] Caravan for helping me become the actor and artist I am now.”
Grosso has applied to numerous schools including NYU, FSU, UM and Penn State but his first choice is the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
