(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)-The friday night lights were finally turned off as the LRHS Mustang football season came to a close.
The varsity team finished the season 5-5. They had a lot to celebrate and much to reflect on in preparing for spring football and the next season.
Head Coach Shawn Trent said, “We had a great season of course we can improve but I am happy overall with our performance.”
LRHS junior wide receiver/running back Cameron Pearcy said,“We became closer as a team, we did a great job on listening to coaches and working better as a whole.”
Assistant varsity football coach Anthony Littlejohn said, “We had an inconsistency in our plays and our players, the whole year. Of course we can improve, but we played hard throughout the year.”
Closing their 2013-14 season with a loss the players felt that they could have improved in certain areas but together they played well as a whole.
Varsity football player Mark Simat said, “We worked hard, and played hard.”
Throughout the year the team had a total of 13 injuries ranging from torn ACLs to dislocated shoulders.
“We had 13 injuries this year, which definitely hurt us, but again we pulled through and made the best of the situation we were put in,” said Littlejohn.
Assistant coach Bryan Richards said, “we were weak offensively but dominated defensively, we could have defiantly improved in many areas.”
Littlejohn and Richards praised key players defensive back Brandon Lewllen, Pearcy, along with running backs A’Shawn Angel and J.T. Fisher.
The Mustangs are already getting ready to tun the lights back on as they get ready for 2014.
