Mustangs travel with their taste buds

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – It’s time again for LRHS economics teacher Vito Bavaro’s students to sample “Foods from Around the World.”

The annual project consists of students picking a food from designated countries. They make Powerpoint presentations to break down the cost of ingredients and then how much it takes to complete the dish.

Students not only do a powerpoint, but also prepare the food at home, and bring them to school.

Teachers volunteer to judge the dishes, coming in for the last 40 minutes of class in periods 2,3,4,6, and 7 on December 5 and 6. The students’ food is put to the test, the top three foods are picked, and these student chefs are given extra credit.

Bavaro said, “It’s a great way for students to find out the reality of the cost and labor it actually takes to make many foods”.
