Mustangs show vets appreciation

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – To commemorate Veterans Day, Mustangs were given the chance to show their appreciation for veterans as the National Honor Society (NHS) wrote thank you notes to veterans.

The idea for these letters was suggested by senior NHS vice-president Marina Masterson.

Masterson got her inspiration for the idea when she saw a friendly samaritan give a brief thank you to a veteran. The veteran was very appreciative, saying that not many people acknowledged his service.

This gave her the idea to give thanks to all veterans by writing cards to them.

The cards weren’t written to a specific branch of military, “It doesn’t matter how they served, just that they were there for us,” NHS adviser Anya Grady explained.

Instead of limiting letter writers to NHS members, the club invited and encouraged all students to give their thanks. Students were given community service hours for the time and effort they put into the cards.

Grady was very pleased with the results, “We’ve been getting some really lovely letters and I think they will really appreciate it.”
