Holiday donation season starting already

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Everyone at LRHS has a chance to help out the less fortunate this holiday season. The annual Mayors’ Feed the Hungry Thanksgiving Food Drive takes place at LRHS through November 11-21.

Schools in Manatee and Sarasota Counties are participating in the program to collect un-perishable and easily packaged food items. Everything collected will be given away free to those in need in the local communities. This is a great way for students at LRHS to help serve their community and make a positive impact in many lives.

The Mayors’ Feed the Hungry Program is made up of several charitable groups involving religious institutions and several service agencies. Everyone involved in this program is unpaid and doing it out of the goodness of their hearts.

LRHS food drive coordinator Candice Delazzer is excited about the upcoming event and hopes it will be very successful.

“Last year we collected roughly 2200 items for the food drive, but we hope to increase it this year.”

The 2013 food drive will be cosponsored by the Student Government Association (SGA) and Quill and Scroll. Students will be bringing their items starting November 11 to their first period teachers. SGA and Quill and Scroll will be keep daily tallies on which first periods have collected the most items. As an incentive for students to bring lots of items, Quill and Scroll will be awarding the first period who collected the most with a doughnut and juice party.

All food items must be donated by Thursday, November 21, because food pick up is Friday, November 22. Students are encouraged to support the community by bringing as much as they can to ensure no families in the community go hungry this Thanksgiving.

Delazzer says every donation is appreciated.
